A 65-year-old man died after he was shot in an officer involved shooting Monday around 1:30 pm in Belfast.
65-Year-old Man Threatening to Burn Down Apartment
The Waldo County Sheriff’s Office said Daniel Ryan of Belfast was making threats to burn down his Cedar Street apartment if police did not respond to the scene.
Threats Continued after Law Enforcement Arrived
When law enforcement arrived, Ryan made more threats to burn his apartment, said WGME News.
Man Charged with Gas Can on Fire
Ryan then charged at police and deputies with a gas can on fire. He was shot and killed by Waldo County Sheriff’s Sgt. Nicholas Oettinger.
Attorney General's Office Investigating Shooting
The Maine Attorney General’s Office is investigating the shooting. Oettinger was placed on administrative leave which is standard practice in a police involved shooting.
