
Police Shot Man Charged with Swinging Sword at Officers in Maine
A 35-year-old man was shot by police Friday and charged with swinging a sword at officers during a traffic stop in Calais.
Officer Involved Shooting During Traffic Stop
The Calais Police Department said officers told Abinadi White he was under arrest during a motorcycle traffic stop at the intersection of Main Street and North Street.
Refused to Follow Commands and Police Tried to Use Taser
White refused to follow commands. Police tried to taze him but were unsuccessful.
Man Grabbed a Sword and Swung at Law Enforcement
He grabbed a sword and swung it at the officers, according to Calais PD.
Officer and Deputy Fired Fired Shots
An officer and a deputy fired shots. Calais Police Officer Charles Ball and Washington County Sheriff’s Deputy Taylor LeBlanc both discharged their guns.

Man Seriously Injured and Flown to Second Hospital
White was seriously injured and transported to Calais Regional Hospital. He was then flown by LifeFlight to Northern Light Eastern Maine Medical Center. He was listed in stable condition.

Officer and Deputy Placed on Administrative Leave
Officer Ball and Deputy LeBlanc were placed on administrative leave as part of standard protocol.
