Woman ‘Waving Frantically for Help’ during Police Chase in Maine
A 34-year-old man was arrested Sunday following a high-speed pursuit after police saw a female passenger “waving frantically” for help in Portland.
High Speed Chase through Several Towns
Benjamin Martineau from Portland was apprehended after a 20-minute police chase through Portland, Deering and on I-295.
Woman “Waving Frantically” to Police from Vehicle
The Portland Police Department said an officer saw “a woman waving frantically for help out the passenger side window of a vehicle on Forest Avenue” around 2:17 pm.
Female Passenger Opened Door to Vehicle during Chase
Multiple police units pursued the vehicle “as the female appeared to open the passenger door of the moving vehicle.”
Police Attempt High Risk Stop
Police attempted to use spike mats, but it was not successful due to heavy traffic. Officers did a high risk stop after the vehicle pulled over at mile marker 12 on I-295 northbound.
Taken to Jail
Martineau was taken into custody and transported to the Cumberland County Jail.
Multiple Charges
He faces charges for Criminal Restraint, DV Assault, DV Criminal Threatening, Eluding an Officer, Refusal to Stop, Reckless Conduct with a Dangerous Weapon, two counts of Driving to Endanger, Obstructing the Report of a Crime, Operating Without A License, Terrorizing and Leaving the Scene of an Accident.
