A wanted man was arrested Tuesday after a 12-hour standoff in Norway, Maine.
Fugitive from Justice Arrested after 12-Hour Standoff
Patrick McGinnis was wanted on eight active arrest warrants and has been evading police custody since 2024. He was part of an active fugitive from justice investigation.
Police Received Credible Evidence Suspect was Staying at Home
The Norway Police Department received credible information that he was staying inside a residence at 168 Main Street.
Suspect Refused to Exit Home and Police Surrounded Residence
McGinnis refused to obey police orders and exit the home. The house was surrounded and a perimeter was set up. Homes and businesses in the area were evacuated.
Street was Closed and Perimeter Established Outside Home
The street was closed between Fair Street and Paris Street as the standoff continued.
Officers Tried to Communicate with Suspect for Hours
Police attempted to communicate with McGinnis with a public address system and by phone.
Tactical Team Executed Warrant and Arrested Man Inside Residence
The Maine State Police Tactical Team executed a search warrant and went inside the residence. McGinnis was apprehended and taken into custody.
Suspect Taken to the Hospital and Transported to Jail
He was transported to Stephens Memorial Hospital for a medical evaluation and then taken to the Oxford County Jail.
Multiple Police Departments on the Scene of the Standoff
Assisting the Norway Police Department on the scene was the Maine State Police, the Rumford Police Department and the Oxford Police Department.
