A 50-year-old man was found dead Wednesday after a police standoff in Machias.

“Deceased by his own Hand”

The Machias Police Department said Devon Andrews was “deceased by his own hand” after an eight hour standoff on Lyon Street.

Threats and Acting Out of Control

Police were called after Andrews was allegedly threatening staff at Sunrise Residents and acting out of control.

Police Tried Talking to Man

Officers attempted to communicate with him through his apartment door, said WABI News.

“All Hell was Going to Break Loose”

He reportedly told police he had five loaded guns and “all hell was going to break loose.” Andrews stopped talking to police soon after. The building was then evacuated.

Tactical Team Found Man Dead

The Maine State Police Tactical Team entered his apartment eight hours later. Andrews was dead by suicide, said Machias PD. The investigation remains open.
