A 39-year-old man was arrested after an hours-long standoff in Kittery on Thursday afternoon.
Pointed Gun at Men Working Outside
The Kittery Police Department said Nicolas Rike “was yelling and pointing a rifle at men who were performing work outside of a home next to 161 Pepperrell Rd.”
Refused to Exit House
When officers arrived on the scene around 1:46 pm, Rike was standing in the doorway, but refused to come out. Police said he looked “agitated and confrontational with the officers.”
Perimeter Set Up
The area was shut down and a perimeter set up around the house. Police continued to try to make contact with Rike, but he was not responding.
Crisis Team Called
The Southern Maine Special Response Team was called in and the Crisis Negotiation Team were able to establish communication.
Surrendered to Police
Rike “eventually surrendered peacefully to police at approximately 6:10 pm,” said Kittery PD.
Jail and Charges
He was taken to the York County Jail and charged with Criminal Threatening with a Dangerous Weapon. The investigation is ongoing.
