
Man Arrested after Police Chase & Crash with Amish Buggy in Maine
A 34-year-old man was arrested Tuesday morning after a police chase in Presque Isle and crash with an Amish buggy with six children on board.
Pursuit Started at Mall
The Presque Isle Police Department said Anthony Vangel from Easton was in the Aroostook Centre Mall parking lot when the pursuit started around 7:30 am.
High-Speed Chase
The chase was called off when speeds reached 90 mph on adverse road conditions.
Hit Amish Buggy with Six Children On Board
Vangel then “lost control of his vehicle, spinning on the roadway and striking a horse-drawn Amish wagon carrying six children,” said Presque Isle PD. No one was injured in the crash including the horse.
Multiple Charges
He was taken into custody and charged with operating after suspension, operating under the influence, eluding, driving to endanger, refusing to submit to arrest and detention, criminal speed, failure to report, and violation of bail.
Failed to Report to Jail
PIPD said at the time of the pursuit, Vangel had failed to report to the Aroostook County Jail for ten sets of bail conditions including charges of aggravated trafficking with a firearm, burglary, theft, forgery and violation of bail.
