One man died early Wednesday morning and two people escaped a house fire at 139 Ginn Road in Presque Isle.

One Dead and Two Escaped after House Fire

There was a heavy fire on the second floor of the home when firefighters arrived on the scene around 3:42 am.

Two People Escaped and One Person was Unaccounted For

Two people had escaped safely. Fire crews were advised of a third person in the residence on the second floor who was unaccounted for.

Deceased Male Found on Second Floor Inside Home

“A team of State Fire Marshal investigators responded to the scene. One adult male was located deceased inside the home,” according Shannon Moss, Public Information Officer, Maine Department of Public Safety.

Body Taken to Medical Examiner for Identification and Cause of Death

His body was transported to the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner for an autopsy to make a positive identification and to determine the cause of death.

Fire Started in Man’s Bedroom and Cause Under Investigation

“Investigators have determined the fire originated in the deceased male’s bedroom,” said Moss. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.

Smoke Detector Working on First Floor and not on Second Floor

A smoke detector on the first floor alerted the two people who escaped the fire. Officials said there was no working smoke detector on the second floor.

Ongoing Fire Investigation with Multiple Departments Responding

The fire remains under investigation. Responding to the scene was the Presque Isle Fire Department, the Presque Isle Police Department, the Easton Fire Department, Caribou Fire and Ambulance and Versant Power. The Mapleton Fire Department assisted with station coverage.
