A 51-year-old man died Wednesday night after he hit a utility pole and was ejected from his motorcycle in Wales.

Steven A. Caouette from Litchfield was pronounced dead at the scene of the crash on Route 197 (Litchfield Road) around 6 pm.

Driver Missed a Curve in the Road, Collided with a Utility Pole and was Ejected

The Androscoggin County Sheriff’s Office said Caouette “failed to negotiate a curve in the roadway. As a result, the motorcycle left the travel lane and struck the utility pole.”

Utility Pole was Broken and Fell in the Road Blocking Traffic

The pole was broken after the impact and fell into the roadway, making it impassable. It was later cleared and traffic returned to normal in the area.

Crash is Under Investigation and Being Reconstructed to Determine the Cause

“A detective from the Androscoggin County Sheriff’s Office responded to assist with crash reconstruction. The incident remains under investigation at this time,” according to the Sheriff’s Office.

Multiple Agencies and Departments Assisted at the Scene of the Crash

Assisting the Androscoggin County Sheriff’s Office was the Wales Fire Department, the Sabattus Fire Department, the Sabattus Police Department and United Ambulance Service.
