Residents escaped but a cat died after a house fire Sunday in Bar Harbor.
Residents Safe, Cat Died
The residents were out of the burning home and safe when firefighters arrived on the scene.
Hard to Extinguish Fire
The Southwest Harbor Fire Department said “the fire was extremely difficult to extinguish as it was mostly in the second floor walls, ceilings and floors of the fine old residence.”

Access was Restricted
Access to the house was slippery and restricted to crews. Salt and sand were spread out in the area to make it accessible.
Mutual Aid
Multiple fire departments assisted including Mount Desert, Ellsworth, Trenton, Tremont and Lamoine.
Ongoing Fire Investigation
The cause of the fire is under investigation.
