
18-Year-old Man Charged with Arson After House Fire in Maine
An 18-year-old man was arrested Wednesday night and charged with Arson after a house fire in Belfast.
Man Arrested and Charged with Arson
Christopher Gordon was taken into custody around 8 pm at his residence at 53 City Point Road.
Fire in Basement Put Out by Homeowner
The fire in the basement of the home was extinguished by the homeowner before the Belfast Fire Department responded to the scene. Gordon lives at the residence with other family members.
Smoke Filled the House
Smoke filled the house and was ventilated by firefighters, said officials.
Cause and Origin of Fire Investigation
The Office of the State Fire Marshal was called to investigate the cause and origin of the fire.

Fire in Basement was Intentionally Set and Caused Damage
“Investigators determined that the fire originated in the basement and was intentionally set. The fire produced significant smoke throughout the residence and caused minor damage to the basement,” according to the Maine Department of Public Safety.
Arrested and Charged with Arson
Gordon was arrested and charged with Arson. He had conditions for release in another investigation.

Taken to County Jail and Booked Without Bail
He was transported to the Waldo County Jail and booked. He was held without bail.
Pets in the House Were Not Injured
No injuries were reported. Several pets were in the house and were unharmed.

The fire is under investigation.
