Man Arrested after PIT Used in High Speed Police Chase in Maine
A 28-year-old man was arrested Thursday morning after spike mats and PIT were used in a high-speed police chase in Saco.
Chase Involved Two Crashes, Spike Mats and PIT Maneuver
Gabriel Nodarse was charged with Eluding and Reckless Conduct with a Dangerous Weapon.
Hit and Run
The Maine State Police said Nodarse was involved in a hit and run before the police pursuit.
Reckless Speed and Erratic Driving
The chase started when a Trooper saw Nodarse driving at “a reckless speed and passing in a no-passing zone on Route 25 in Cornish.” He was crossing into oncoming traffic.
Fled from Police
Nodarse fled at a high rate of speed when the Trooper tried to pull him over.
Spike Mats Deployed
Spike mats were successfully deployed at the Limington-Standish town line. Both wheels on the passenger side were disabled. Nodarse “continued to flee, driving on deflating tires and rims,” said the Maine State Police.
Hit a Second Car
Nodarse rear-ended another vehicle at the intersection of Route 25 and 35 in Standish. That driver was injured.
PIT Maneuver Ended Chase
He continued into Gorham. A Maine State Trooper did a PIT maneuver and ended the police pursuit.
Custody and County Jail
Nodarse was taken into custody and transported to the York County Jail.
