Human remains were found Saturday afternoon in the Garcelon Bog in Lewiston.

Neighbor Found Human Remains

“A nearby resident came across the remains and contacted authorities,” said Shannon Moss, Public Information Officer, Maine Department of Public Safety.

Police Investigation

The Maine State Police Major Crimes Unit South is investigating with the Lewiston Police Department.

Remains there for Extended Period of Time

“Initial findings indicate that the remains have been there for an extended period of time, and there is no danger to the public,” said Moss.

First Responders

Assisting at the scene was Maine State Police Evidence Response Technicians, Maine Game Wardens, and Lewiston Public Works.

Examination and Identification

The remains were taken to the Office of Chief Medical Examiner in Augusta for identification and further examination.
