Houlton Man Going to Prison for Unlawfully Possessing Firearms
A 39-year-old Houlton man was sentenced to 34 months in prison and three years of supervised release for unlawfully possessing firearms.
Court records say John Martin bought three pistols and two rifles from a Maine business. One of the rifles was seized after a search warrant was served at his residence on July 26th, 2017. Martin was prohibited from possessing firearms because of an April 2016 conviction in Maine for misdemeanor domestic violence assault.
Judge John A. Woodcock, Jr. said he was “baffled” that Martin thought he could by a gun after his 2016 charges. Woodcock said his “gun days are over.”
Martin pleaded guilty in February, 2018.
