A 27-year-old man was arrested Thursday night and charged with Burglary, OUI and other crimes after a police chase in Fairfield.

Multiple Charges Involving Burglary and Police Chase

Joel Williams from Vassalboro was charged with Burglary, Criminal Mischief, Terrorizing, Eluding an Officer, Driving to Endanger, OUI Drugs, Leaving the Scene of a Motor Vehicle Accident, Criminal Speed, Reckless Conduct, Refusing to Submit to Arrest or Detention, and Violating Conditions of Release.

Burglary in Progress

The Maine State Police responded to a burglary in progress around 9:21 pm at a residence on Dyer Court.

Report of Man Under the Influence of Drugs and Forced Entry

“It was reported that an armed male, who appeared to be under the influence of drugs, had forced entry into the residence, was acting erratically, and was damaging property,” said Shannon Moss, Public Information Officer, Maine Department of Public Safety.

Fled the Scene in a Vehicle and Yelled Out Window

Williams fled the scene in a black Ford sedan and did not comply with commands to stop. He started yelling out the window of the vehicle as he sped away.

Car Crash and Suspect Fled on Foot

The pursuit went into Waterville where Williams hit a guardrail on Water Street. He got out of the vehicle and then fled on foot.

Arrested and Taken to Jail

Williams was apprehended soon after and taken into custody. He was transported to the Somerset County Jail.

Active Police Investigation

No injuries were reported. The investigation is ongoing.
