The Fredericton Police Force is investigating after the body of a man was discovered Thursday in the Saint John River in Fredericton, not far from the Princess Margaret Bridge.

Police received a call shortly before 11:00 a.m., from a resident who believed there to be a body floating in the river off the Lincoln Road.

Police on Friday said the body has been positively identified as that of a 56-year-old man from Fredericton. His next of kin has been notified but police have not yet released his name to the public.

An autopsy has been scheduled to determine the exact cause of death.  But at this time, Fredericton police say they do not believe criminality to be a factor.

The area of the river is not far from where the body of a 38-year-old man was found in May of last year.

We'll update this post as additional information is provided.
