Two Fugitives Wanted for Murder and Arson Arrested in Maine

A man and woman wanted for Murder and multiple charges were arrested in York on Tuesday.

Wanted for Murder, Arson and Abuse of a Corpse

The York Police Department said 22-year-old Avery Avery Stemmons and 21-year-old Karina Gonzalez Barreto were charged in Texas with Murder, Arson and Abuse of a Corpse.

Arrest Warrants

They both had warrants from the state for their arrests.

U.S. Marshals Looking for the Suspects

The U.S. Marshals and local police “were made aware of two murder suspects from Texas that may be in the York area.” said York PD.

Two Arrested and Gun Seized

Officers recognized Stemmons and Barreto walking on York Street. They were stopped and positively identified. Both were taken into custody. A gun believed to be involved in the murder was seized.

Fugitives from Justice

They were taken to the York County Jail as Fugitives from Justice, and are awaiting  extradition to Texas.
