Fire Destroyed Garage on Main Street
The fire happened around 4:37 am at the Outback Garage at 6 Main Street.
Building Fully Engulfed When Firefighters Responded
The building was fully engulfed when the Patten Fire Department arrived on the scene.
Two People Escaped from Apartment Above Garage
“Two tenants who lived in an apartment above the garage were able to escape safely,” according to Shannon Moss, Public Information Officer, Maine Department of Public Safety.
Eight People Displaced after Fire Damages Nearby Building
The fire spread to an apartment building nearby and caused significant damage. Eight people were displaced.
Fire Originated in the Rear of the Garage
“The fire originated towards the rear of the garage. The use of an excavator hindered investigator’s ability to determine the cause of the fire, however a woodstove cannot be ruled out as a possible cause,” said Moss.
