
One Dead after Early Morning House Fire in Maine
A 78-year-old man died in a house fire early Tuesday morning in Harpswell.
Deceased Man Tentatively Identified
“The deceased has been tentatively identified as 78-year-old Hugh MacFarlane of Harpswell,” said Shannon Moss, Public Information Officer, Maine Department of Public Safety.
Office of the State Fire Marshal Investigating Early Morning Fire
The Office of the State Fire Marshal is investigating the fire that broke out around 4:28 am at 1501 Harpswell Neck Road.
One Person Found Inside Home and Pronounced Dead
Firefighters located one person inside the residence. He was taken outside of the house and pronounced dead at the scene.
Cause and Manner of Death
An examination will be done by the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner to determine the cause and manner of death.
Significant Damage and Cause of Fire Under Investigation
The home and second floor had significant damage and the cause of the fire is under investigation.
First Responders at the Scene and Assisting at the Fire
Multiple departments responded to the scene including the Cumberland County Sheriff’s Office, the Harpswell Neck Fire Department, the West Bath Fire Department, Orr’s Island Fire Department, the Bailey Island Fire Department, Cundy’s Harbor Fire Department, the Brunswick Fire Department and Harpswell Rescue.
