Ludlow Man Killed in Armed Confrontation With Police

A state trooper shot and killed a man Sunday afternoon in an armed confrontation in the southern Aroostook County town of Ludlow.

According to the Maine Department of Public Safety, 52-year-old Alan Gillotti Sr. of Ludlow was shot outside his home on the Smyrna Town Line Road. Troopers had gone to Gillotti's house investigating an armed home invasion in Bridgewater earlier in the day.

As is standard procedure in all police shootings, the Maine Attorney General's Office is investigating. The officer involved, Sgt. Joshua Haines, has been placed on administrative leave with pay.
