Lightning Strike Sets Bridgewater Barn on Fire
It was a wild weather night across Aroostook County on Wednesday, and a lightning strike caught a barn on fire in the town of Bridgewater.
According to Matthew Powers of the Bridgewater Fire Department, crews from the Bridgewater, and Monticello Fire Departments responded to a barn fire at 222 Snow Road at 8:05 p.m. Wednesday that started from a lightning strike.
After learning that the blaze was close to a residence, dispatchers from the Aroostook County Sherriff’s Office were able to update fire crews while they were in route.
The Bridgewater Fire Department arrived on scene to a fully engulfed barn that was threatening the house on its Southern exposure. Crews knocked down the flames quickly and were able to prevent the fire from causing damage to the house.
The LaFrancois family lost the contents and the barn, but the structure was insured.
