Investigation Ongoing after Fire Destroyed Bus Garage in Maine
Officials are investigating after a bus garage was completely destroyed following a fire in Searsport.
Bus Garage Destroyed by Fire
The Searsport Fire Department responded to the scene at the RSU 20 bus garage around 3:35 pm.
Heavy Fire Conditions Inside the Front Door and Structure
“The first arriving fire unit reported smoke showing from the structure, a sagging roof on the right portion of the building, and heavy fire conditions inside the front door on the right-hand side. The building was destroyed as a result of the fire,” according to Shannon Moss, Public Information Officer, Maine Department of Public Safety.
State Fire Marshals Investigating the Scene
The State Fire Marshal's Office was on sight examining the fire to find the cause.
Fire Originated at the Rear of the Building
“Investigators determined the fire originated in the area of the right rear portion of the building, where a pickup truck and a school bus were parked,” said Moss.
Officials Planned to Interview Bus Mechanics
Fire Marshals planned to return to the sight on Monday to do follow-up interviews with bus mechanics.
Active Fire Investigation
The investigation remains active and ongoing.
