One man died Friday night and one person escaped a house fire on Grove Street in Dexter.
Fully Engulfed House When Firefighters Arrived
The Dexter Fire Department said the two-story single-family home was fully engulfed in flames when crews arrived on the scene around 5:29 pm.
One Person Escaped and Another Still Inside the House
“Fire crews were advised that one occupant had escaped the fire, but that a second person was still inside the home and unaccounted for.” according to Shannon Moss, Public Information Officer, Maine Department of Public Safety.
Body Found on Second Floor of Home
A man’s dead body was located on the second floor as firefighters were suppressing the fire.
Fire Marshal Investigation Death and Cause of Fire
The Office of the State Fire Marshal was called to the scene to investigate the fatality and cause of the fire.
Fire Appears to Have Started n Kitchen and was Cooking Related
“Fire investigators have made a preliminary determination that the fire originated in the kitchen and appears to be cooking-related,” said the Maine Department of Public Safety.
Body Transported to Medical Examiner for Identification and Autopsy
The body was taken to the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner for a formal identification and autopsy.
Ongoing Investigation Looking for Evidence and Speaking to Witnesses
The investigation is active and ongoing as evidence is gathered and witnesses are interviewed.
Multiple Fire Departments Responded to the Call
Assisting the Dexter Fire Department were the Dover-Foxcroft Fire Department, the Corinna Fire Department, the Newport Fire Department, the Sangerville Fire Department, and the Garland Fire Department.
