A 26-year-old man was sentenced to life in prison for murdering two victims in Limington.
Life Sentence for Two Murders in Maine
Matthew Cote from York County was found guilty of shooting his mother and partner with a semi-automatic firearm on June 17, 2021.
Shot 30 Rounds at Mother and Partner
Cote shot 30 rounds and killed 47-year-old Cheryl Cote and her partner, 46-year-old Daniel Perkins, according to the United States Attorney’s Office.
Started House on Fire and Guilty of Arson
Cote then set fire to the house. He was also sentenced to 30 years for arson in addition to a life sentence.
Bodied recovered from Burned House
The bodies of the victims were later found in the burning home.

Pleaded Not Guilty and Entered Insanity Plea
He pleaded not guilty and entered an insanity plea. His lawyers said he suffered from schizophrenia and post traumatic stress disorder.
Mental State Did Not Impair Judgement
The jury said his mental state did not impair his understanding of right or wrong.

Man “Snapped and Couldn’t Stop”
Cote told investigators, "Once I snapped, I couldn't stop."

Ordered to Pay Victim’s Compensation Fund
He was also ordered to pay $3,000 to a victim's compensation fund.
