54-Year-Old Man Dies in Officer Involved Shooting in Wales, Maine
54-year-old William N. Derick was shot and killed by a State Trooper Monday morning in an armed confrontation Wales, Maine.
The Trooper involved in the shooting, James MacDonald, is a seven year veteran and a member of the State Police Tactical Team, said Public Safety Spokesman, Stephen McCausland.
As is standard in the aftermath of officer involved shootings, MacDonald has been placed on administrative leave with pay as the incident is reviewed by the department, said McCausland. The Attorney General’s Office is the investigating agency for all officer involved shootings in Maine.
Derick lived in a mobile home at 485 Pond Road, also known as Route 132. His body was taken to the State Medical Examiner’s Office for an autopsy.
