Maine Woman Guilty of Drug Trafficking and Firearms Charges
Mandy Shorey pleaded guilty Thursday in U.S. District Court in Portland. She is charged with “distributing and possessing with intent to distribute methamphetamine, conspiring to distribute and possess methamphetamine, and using a firearm in furtherance of a drug trafficking crime.”
Drug Trafficking Meth
Shorey made several large sales of meth to an undercover officer between July 2022 and January 2023, according to court records.
Undercover Purchase of Two Pounds of Meth
In November 2022, the undercover officer set up a controlled buy for two pounds of meth.
Suspect Carried Gun during Drug Deals
On the night of the purchase, Shorey was armed with a handgun. She told the undercover officer that “it was her practice to always carry a firearm for protection when conducting drug deals.”
Another Undercover Purchase of One Pound of Meth
In January 2023, another large purchase was made. Shorey’s drug supplier, Angel Luis Lozano from Lowell, Massachusetts, sold 459 grams of meth to her. Shorey then sold close to one pound of meth to the undercover officer.
Traffic Stop and Arrest
Portland Police pulled Shorey over shortly after the deal. Officers seized the handgun and arrested her.
Facing Life in Prison
For the drug charges, Shorey faces a minimum of 10 years to life with a $10 million fine, plus supervised release for a minimum of five years to life. On the firearms charges, she could get a minimum of five years and a $250,000 fine.
Supplier Pleaded Guilty
Lozano also entered a guilty plea to federal drug charges for his role in the conspiracy.
