
Two Men Charged with Drug Trafficking after Police Chase in Maine
Two men were arrested Saturday and charged with Drug Trafficking after hitting a police cruiser during a chase in South Portland.
Two Men Arrested after Police Chase
The South Portland Police Department said 21-year-old Hamza A. Mahamud from Roxbury, MA and 33-year-old Gerald A. Daughtry from Roslindale, MA were taken into custody around 1:30 am.
High Speed Pursuit
The police chase started on Westbrook Street after the men fled at a high rate of speed from officers through the Brickhill neighborhood.
Car Crashed into Police Cruiser
When Mahamud and Daughtry reached a dead end street, the vehicle reversed and backed into a police cruiser. The suspect’s vehicle was disabled.
Ordered at Gunpoint
“The driver and passenger of the vehicle were then ordered from the vehicle at gunpoint,” said South Portland PD.
Drugs Disguised in Candy Packages
Officers seized large amounts of drugs disguised in candy packaging as well as a knife, drug equipment, cash, and several cell phones.
Driver Faces Charges
Mahamud, the driver, did not have a valid driver’s license. He was charged with Reckless Conduct With a Dangerous Weapon, Aggravated Criminal Mischief, Unlawful Trafficking in Cocaine, Unlawful Trafficking in Marijuana, Unlawful Possession of Methamphetamine, Aggravated Trafficking in Heroin/Fentanyl Powder, Unlawful Possession of Cocaine Base, Operating Without a License, Failure to Stop, Driving to Endanger.
Passenger Charged
Daughtry faces charges for Carrying a Concealed Weapon, Unlawful Trafficking in Cocaine, Unlawful Trafficking in Marijuana, Unlawful Possession of Methamphetamine, Aggravated Trafficking in Heroin/Fentanyl Powder, Unlawful Possession of Cocaine Base.
Bail set at $30,000
They were taken to the Cumberland County Jail with bail set at $30,000 cash each.
