One person died early Wednesday morning after a fire destroyed a residence at 70 Pleasant Drive in Benton.

Family Home Completely Involved When Fire Crews Arrived

Firefighters responded to the blaze around 2:07 am and found the single-family home fully involved.

Suppression Effort to Get Fire Under Control and Road Closed

Crews brought the fire under control with suppression efforts. The road was closed for emergency personnel and first responders.

Body Recovered from Inside Residence after Fire

“During firefighting operations, crews located a deceased individual inside the residence,” according to Shannon Moss, Public Information Officer, Maine Department of Public Safety.

Victim’s Positive Identification and Cause of Death

The body was transported to the Office of Chief Medical Examiner in Augusta to identify the victim and determine the cause and manner of death.

Body of a Dog Found after the Fire

A dog’s body was also recovered inside the house following the fire.

Fire Under Investigation by the Office of the State Fire Marshal

The Office of the State Fire Marshal was called to the scene to investigate the fire.

Mutual Aid Provided by Multiple Fire Departments

Assisting and providing mutual aid was the Waterville Fire Department, the Albion Fire Department, the Clinton Fire Department, the Skowhegan Fire Department, and the Oakland Fire Department.
