A 36-year-old man was arrested early Tuesday morning after a 47-year-old man was stabbed in China, Maine.

Suspect Fled after Man Stabbed

Jacob Hebert from Lewiston fled the scene in a black Jeep Cherokee before police responded around 12:54 am.

Victim Taken to the Hospital with Serious Injuries

The victim from Oakland was transported to the hospital with serious but non-life threatening injuries. He was treated and discharged.

Two Men Knew Each Other

Police believe the suspect and victim knew each other.

Arrest Warrant Issued and Suspect Reported in the Area

An arrest warrant was issued for Hebert and police received information he had returned to the area.

Suspect Located and Apprehended after a Traffic Stop

“A Trooper located his Jeep on Deer Hill Road and monitored the vehicle until additional units arrived. A traffic stop was conducted, and Hebert was taken into custody without incident,” according to the Maine Department of Public Safety.

Charged with Elevated Aggravated Assault

Hebert faces charges for Elevated Aggravated Assault.

Suspect Taken to County Jain and Held Without Bail

He was transported to the Kennebec County Jail and held without bail.

The investigation remains active and ongoing. There is no ongoing threat to the public, said officials.
