Motorist Found Guilty In Fatal Crosswalk Crash

LEWISTON, Maine (AP) — A Maine judge has found a motorist guilty of failing to yield to a middle school student killed in a crosswalk last November.

The Sun Journal reports that 55-year-old Laurie Young surrendered her license Thursday during the emotionally charged proceeding.

She also apologized to the mother of 13-year-old Jayden Cho-Sargent, who was killed while walking to Lewiston Middle school. The boy was dragged 200 feet past the crosswalk.

The judge sentenced Young to a three-year loss of license and a $3,000 fine. Most of the fine can be eliminated if she performs community service, preferably speaking to school kids about her experience.
