Mortar and Grenade Found at Two Different Locations in Maine

A mortar and grenade were found Saturday at two different locations in Maine.

Mortar Found on Residential Property

The mortar was found by a person on their property on White Road in Bowdoinham.

Sheriff’s Office and Bomb Squad at the Scene

The Sagadahoc County Sheriff’s Office and the Maine State Police Bomb Squad responded to the scene around 2:27 pm.

X-Ray Showed Grenade Potentially Hazardous

Technicians “identified the item as an 81MM M374 mortar round. X-ray analyses showed indicators of the item being potentially hazardous” according to the Maine Department of Public Safety.

Mortar Removed and Rendered Secure

The mortar was removed from the site and rendered safe at a secure location.

Ongoing Mortar Investigation

The investigation remains open.

Grenade Found the Same Day at Different Location

A grenade was found on Saturday afternoon in Winslow around 3:36 pm.

Grenade Found in Basement of House

A person found the grenade while cleaning out the basement of a residence on Main Street.

Grenade Identified as MK2 Hand Grenade

“The grenade was identified as a live standard MK2 hand grenade from the WWII or Korean War era,” according to the Maine Department of Public Safety.

The Maine State Police Bomb Squad and Technician responded to the scene.
