Man Sentenced to 10 Year for Crash that Killed Two in Maine
A 42-year-old man was sentenced to 10 years for a fatal crash on I-95 that killed a wife and husband.
10 Years with 5 Years Suspended
David Herring from South Portland was given a 10 year sentence with 5 years suspended. He will also have four years probation for each manslaughter charge.
Husband and Wife Died in Crash
Herring crashed his tractor trailer into the car of 68-year-old Geoffrey Gattis and his wife, 68-year-old Elizabeth Gattis on January 12, 2021.
Did not Slow Down for Traffic Delays
Police said Herring did not slow down for traffic delays on the Maine Turnpike in Kittery. He was going 57 mph when he collided with the vehicle.
Impact Pushed Car into Another Tractor Trailer
The impact pushed the car into another tractor trailer and crushed their vehicle, said WGME News. They both died in the crash.
Driver was Distracted and Ignored Warnings
Court records said Herring was distracted and ignored warnings of a traffic delay on the Maine Turnpike in Kittery.
