Man Arrested for Domestic Violence & Police Standoff in Maine
A 65-year-old man was arrested early Sunday morning for elevated aggravated domestic violence assault and creating a police standoff on Black Mountain Road in Bridgton.
Charged with Domestic Violence and Police Standoff
James Godfrey Shepherd of Chesapeake Beach, Maryland was taken into custody around 5:10 am.
Victim Suffered Head Injury
The Oxford County Sheriff’s Office said a 64-year-old woman from Sweden, Maine was assaulted and suffered a head injury.
Woman Escaped and Taken to Hospital
When deputies and police arrived on the scene around 1:45 am, the woman was able to get out of the residence to safety. She was taken to Bridgton Hospital and later released.
“Determined to Stay in Residence”
The Sheriff’s Office said Shepherd “was determined to be inside the residence.” Deputies attempted contact but those efforts failed. A perimeter was established until a search warrant was issued.
Suspect Apprehended
The warrant was executed at 5:10 am and Shepherd was apprehended inside without incident. He was taken to the Oxford County Jail.
