High winds and gusts have caused outages in Northern & Central Maine and other areas of the state. 51,865 meters are affected. Close to 1,000 in Aroostook County with 27,806 on Penobscot County.

Outage Details

More than 51,000 customers are experiencing power outages at 11 a.m. Friday as winds continue to whip through northern and eastern Maine. Some areas where Emera Maine crews have managed to restore service are experiencing new outages as a second wave of winds continues to cause damage, particularly in Greater Bangor and Penobscot County. The majority of crews are focused on addressing reports of downed power lines to ensure public safety. Others are addressing outages on the transmission system and at substations, which are the backbone of the electrical system. Restoration efforts are expected to continue through the weekend.

Safety Considerations & Contact Information

The public is reminded to never touch a downed power line or a tree in contact with a downed line.

Motorists are urged to slow down or move over and change lanes, when possible, if approaching utility crews working on roadways.

Customers who use generators or alternate heating sources are reminded to ensure they are used in accordance with manufacturer's guidelines at all times.
