Woodstock Fire Chief Ricky Nicholson said 14 firefighters responded to the call at around 8 a.m. after a passerby reported the blaze. The owners were not home at the time.  Heavy smoke was pouring out from the gable ends and eaves when firefighters arrived.

The Woodstock Fire Department contended with gusty winds as they worked to bring the fire under control. Crews were on site for over 3 hours Wednesday.

Chief Nicholson said the fire originated in the basement in the chimney flue. There was extensive damage throughout the house.  It's not certain whether the home can be made livable again.
