(AP) Authorities say a Maine father was killed and his wife, two daughters and a family friend were seriously hurt after their SUV collided with a dump truck in Gorham.

Sgt. Dan Young says the crash happened around 10:15 a.m. Monday. The dump truck and the SUV were driving on opposite sides of U.S. Route 202 when the SUV lost control. It crossed over the line and was hit by the truck.

Police say 45-year-old Joseph Piawlock, a passenger, was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver, 39-year-old Yvonne Piawlock, sustained severe internal injuries.

Chief Dan Jones says three girls in the backseat were hospitalized with critical injuries. The driver of the dump truck wasn't hurt.

Jones says the road was covered in snow at the time of the crash.
