A 63-year-old man was arrested Friday after intentionally trying to hit multiple vehicles and a bicyclist in Scarborough. His vehicle crashed and caught on fire and he assaulted police.

Man Arrested after Trying to Hit Vehicles

The incident started at 4:30 pm after Lyndon Leonard from Rumford hit a vehicle and fled on Route 114 near Mussey Road.

Intentionally Trying to Hit Vehicles

Police located him on Route 1 and on to Black Point Road where he tried to “intentionally strike other vehicles,” said the Scarborough Police Department.

Tried to hit Bicyclist

He hit another vehicle on Highland Avenue and continued to flee. He then tried to hit a person on a bike before colliding with another vehicle.

Man Assaulted Police and Resisted Arrest

Leonard “resisted arrest and assaulted officers before being taken into custody,” said Scarborough PD.

Vehicles Caught on Fire

His vehicle caught on fire, causing the vehicle he hit to catch on fire. Nearby brush also caught fire.

Bicyclist Injured

The bicyclist was injured and taken to Maine Medical Center. No other injuries were reported.

Multiple Charges

Leonard is charged with five counts of aggravated assault, two counts of aggravated criminal mischief, aggravated eluding an officer, OUI with injury, aggravated driving to endanger, criminal mischief, three counts of violating conditions of release, criminal speed, refusing to submit to arrest or detention, assault, leaving the scene of a motor vehicle crash, failure to provide correct name and date of birth and operating without a license.
