DOT Worker Seriously Injured after Crash on Interstate in Maine

A 57-year-old Department of Transportation worker was seriously injured Wednesday after he was hit by an SUV on I-295 in Gardiner.

DOT crews were removing tire debris from the roadway with warning lights on the truck in the northbound breakdown lane around 1:43 pm.

DOT Worker Stepped Out of Truck to Remove Debris When Crash Happened

“While two workers remained in the truck, a third worker, a 57-year-old Lewiston man, exited the vehicle to remove debris near the right-hand fog line when he was struck by a 2021 Cadillac SUV operated by a 39-year-old Gardiner woman,” according to the Maine Department of Public Safety Public Information Officer Shannon Moss.

Taken to the Hospital with Serious and Non-Life Threatening Injuries

He was transported with serious and non-life threatening injuries to the MaineGeneral Medical Center in Augusta.
