Three people were seriously injured Sunday evening after a single-vehicle crash on I-95 in Gray.

Three Injured after Car Pulled Over onto Shoulder on Turnpike

The Maine State Police said 33-year-old Bright Appiah from Portland pulled onto the shoulder of the road in a Nissan Rogue around 4 pm.

Vehicle Accelerated, Lost Control and Hit a Guardrail

“As Appiah attempted to merge back into traffic, Appiah overcorrected while accelerating and lost control of the vehicle. The Nissan crossed into the median and struck the median guardrail,” according to Shannon Moss, Public Information Officer, Maine Department of Public Safety.

Three People in Vehicle Were Seriously Injured and Transported to the Hospital

Appiah and two passengers in the vehicle were injured and taken to Maine Medical Center in Portland for treatment.

Witnesses Stopped to Help Along with a Doctor, EMTs & Firefighter

Witnesses stopped to help right after the crash. First aid was rendered by an off-duty firefighter, EMTs and doctor who all stopped to help.

Responding to the scene was the Maine State Police, New Gloucester Fire/EMS, Auburn Fire/EMS and the Maine Turnpike Authority.
