
Man’s Body Found Outside Home after House Fire in Maine
A man’s body was found by first responders outside a burning home in Sumner.
First Responders on the Scene of the Fire
Crews with the Sumner Fire Department arrived at the structure fire on Valley Road Wednesday around 5 pm.
911 Caller Reported Fire
The fire was reported by a 911 caller who saw the blaze from a distance.
ATVs and Trucks Used to Access Remote Home
“Responding crews experienced significant challenges accessing the residence due to its off-grid location and a roughly one-mile approach requiring the use of all-terrain vehicles and 4x4 pickup trucks,” according to Shannon Moss, Public Information Officer, Maine Department of Public Safety.
Man’s Body Found Outside Home
The man’s body was discovered outside the residence when crews arrived.
Off-Grid Home was a Total Loss
The home was a total loss. It was powered solely by propane and solar energy, said Moss.
Maine State Fire Marshal’s Office Investigating the Fire
The Maine State Fire Marshal's Office was called to investigate the origin and cause of the fire.
Autopsy to be Done to Determine Positive Identification
The Office of the Chief Medical Examiner will do an autopsy to determine a positive identification of the victim.
Active and Ongoing Fire Investigation
The investigation remains active and ongoing. No additional information was released.
