A body was found Monday inside a home after a house fire in Cambridge.

Victim Believed to be the Homeowner

“The victim is believed to be homeowner, 75-year-old Stuart Howe,” said Shannon Moss, Public Information Officer, Maine Department of Public Safety.

Body Located Inside Home of Fatal Fire

The fatal fire started around 5:10 pm at 133 Andrew Ham Road. The body was located during initial fire suppression efforts.

Autopsy to be Done to Confirm Positive Identification

The deceased will be transported to the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner in Augusta for an autopsy and to determine positive identification.

Fire Marshal Investigating the Fire

The Maine State Fire Marshal’s Office was on the scene investigating.

Multiple Departments Responded to the Scene

Several departments responded including the Cambridge Fire Department, the Sangerville Fire Department and the Harmony Fire Department.

Excavator Used to Help Suppress House Fire

Firefighting crews used an excavator to help put out the blaze. “They battled cold weather and slippery conditions to extinguish the fire,” said the Maine Department of Public Safety.

Cause of Fire Remains Under Investigation

The cause of the fire remains under investigation. More details will be released when additional information is made available.
