Ashland Man Arrested in Mapleton Crash
Maine State Police have charged an Ashland man in connection with a single-vehicle crash in Mapleton last month that left one woman injured.
On March 28 at around 6:45 p.m., Trooper Nick Casavant responded to a crash with injury on Route 163 in Mapleton. Police say they received Information that a man and woman had fled the scene.
A passenger, 54-year-old Carla Bragdon of Ashland, was found to be trapped in the 2009 Toyota Corolla. She was transported by Crown Ambulance to the Aroostook Medical Center with non life-threatening injuries, state police say.
In the course of the investigation, Trooper Casavant identified 44-year-old Edward Wetherell of Ashland as the operator of the vehicle. He was also able to identify the second passenger as 48-year-old Tracy Tompkins, also of Ashland.
Police learned that the car had been taken from the owner without permission in Ashland, a day after it had been purchased.
On April 4, Trooper Casavant charged Wetherell with Operating after Revocation, Leaving the Scene of a Personal Injury Accident, Unauthorized Use of Property and Violation of Bail.
Police say Tompkins was arrested on two outstanding warrants. She was transported to the Aroostook County Jail in Houlton.
