A 41-year-old man was sentenced to 3 years in prison for a bank robbery in Portland.
Sentenced to 3 Years in Prison
Jason Arsenault pleaded guilty on July 29. He will also have three years of supervised release and pay $1,700 in restitution.
Passed “Car Bomb” Note to Teller through Pneumatic Tube
The bank robbery happened on January 26. Court records said “Arsenault pulled up to the drive‑through window of a South Portland bank wearing a black winter hat, sunglasses and a black mask covering his face. Using the pneumatic tube, he passed a note to the teller that read, “CAR BOMB No Cops Alarms or WE ALL DIE $50,000 in 20’s.”
Fled the Scene with Cash
The bank teller put “some cash” in the pneumatic tube and Arsenault fled the scene in a vehicle.
Surveillance Video used for Investigation
Investigators used images from surveillance footage to identify him and track his vehicle.
Arrested and Some Money Recovered
Arsenault was arrested six days later. He confessed to the robbery and “directed investigators to the money hidden in a backpack in Baxter Woods in Portland. The backpack and all but $1,700 in stolen funds were recovered,” said court documents.
