A man was arrested Saturday evening and charged with Criminal Mischief after a house was torn apart by a grapple skidder in Portage Lake.

Multiple Charges Including Criminal trespass and Violation of Release

Gary Belanger from Portage was taken into custody and charged with Aggravated Criminal Mischief, Criminal Trespass and Violation of Conditions of Release.

Skidder Blocking the Road on Route  and Driver Behaving Strangely

The Aroostook County Sheriff’s Office responded to the scene after reports of the skidder blocking Route 11 in Portage Lake and the “the driver was behaving strangely.”

Belanger was standing on the ford of the skidder when deputies arrived on the scene around 4:40 pm.

Man Coaxed Off Skidder after Damage to the Residence and Large Propane Leak

“The male was coaxed off the roof and taken into custody. There was significant damage to the residence near where the skidder was located as well as a large propane leak,” said Sheriff Peter A. Johnson.

Additional Charges are Possible Following the Investigation

More charges are pending following the ongoing investigation.
