The Can-Am Crown: Maine’s Biggest Dog Sled Race Celebrates 25th Anniversary
FORT KENT, Maine (AP) — Maine's biggest dog sled race is underway. The Irving Woodlands Can-Am Crown 250 kicked off Saturday in Fort Kent.
Mushers are headed through the wilderness of northern Maine, including stops in Portage and Allagash before returning 250 miles later to the starting point.
More than a dozen teams are participating during the 25th anniversary of the race that serves as a qualifier for the Iditarod across Alaska.
The musher to beat is seven-time winner Martin Massicotte of Quebec. Organizers say conditions on the course are ideal.
