Since the middle of December 2015, the Codiac Regional RCMP have received several complaints regarding break and enters where firearms were stolen from homes in Moncton, Dieppe, Riverview, and surrounding areas.

A total of 22 firearms have been reported stolen from homes. Ten of these firearms were stolen from one residence, where they were safely stored.  Most of the 22 firearms were hunting rifles, but a revolver and reproduction pistol were also stolen.

The thief or thieves also took electronics, jewelery, liquor and food from some of the homes.

The RCMP is reminding the public of steps they can take to help reduce the likelihood their homes will be targeted by thieves, such as having a relative or friend check on their homes if they will be away, and to make arrangements to have snow cleared and flyers picked up, so the home will not appear unoccupied.

Anyone with information about these break-ins and thefts is asked to contact police at 506-857-2400. Information can also be provided anonymously through Crime Stoppers by calling 1-800-222-TIPS (8477), texting TIP212 + your message to 'CRIMES' (274637), or by Secure Web Tips at www.crimenb.ca.
