Presque Isle Men Arrested & Pedestrian Injured in Fort Fairfield

An 18-year-old man and 19-year-old man, both from Presque Isle, were arrested Saturday night after a pedestrian was hit by a vehicle and seriously injured following a reckless driving incident and altercation in Fort Fairfield.

18-Year-Old Presque Isle Man Arrested

The Fort Fairfield Police Department said 18-year-old Noah Sirois from Presque Isle has been charged with operating under the influence, elevated aggravated assault, terrorizing, reckless conduct with a motor vehicle, driving to endanger, leaving the scene of a personal injury accident, criminal speed and eluding an officer.

19-Year-Old Presque Isle Man Arrested

Police also arrested 19-year-old Landon MacDougal from Presque Isle and charged him with elevated aggravated assault, terrorizing, reckless conduct with a motor vehicle, leaving the scene of a personal injury accident, criminal speed, eluding an officer and violation of conditions of release.

Vehicle Driven Reckless and Fast

The incident started around 7:30 pm Saturday when Fort Fairfield Police received numerous reports of a vehicle driving recklessly from Presque Isle to Fort Fairfield at a very high rate of speed.

Erratic Road-Rage Continued

“The erratic operation and road-rage type behavior continued into the compact area of Fort Fairfield, on Main Street and onto Presque Isle Street,” said Fort Fairfield Chief of Police Matthew E. Cummings.

Confrontation at Convenience Store

The vehicle was chasing other vehicles on side streets before going to a local convenience store where a verbal confrontation took place.

Man Struck as Vehicle Fled

“During the altercation, the suspect vehicle fled the scene and struck a pedestrian while fleeing,” said Chief Cummings.

Pedestrian Seriously Injured

The man hit by the vehicle was 48-year-old Sean Wright from Fort Fairfield. He had serious, life threatening injuries. Wright was taken to AR Gould Hospital in Presque Isle and then transferred to Eastern Maine Medical Center in Bangor.

Vehicle did not Stop and Fled From Police

Fort Fairfield Police Officer Cody Fenderson located the vehicle on the Presque Isle Road near the town line. He attempted to stop the vehicle, but the driver did not stop, eluded police and fled the scene.

Suspects Arrested

Police were later able to locate the vehicle and arrested Sirois and MacDougal. They were both transported to the Aroostook County Jail. Sirois had his bail set at $50,000.00 cash. MacDougal was being held without bail pending a court appearance on Monday.

Law Enforcement Investigating

Chief Cummings said the investigation is ongoing and is led by Officer Cody Fenderson, assisted by Officer Isaac Wipperman and Chief Matthew Cummings. Ft. Fairfield PD was assisted on scene by the U.S. Border Patrol, Fort Fairfield Fire and Rescue, Presque Isle Police Department and the Aroostook County Sheriff’s Office.
