A Mexican man, who entered the U.S. illegally from Canada by crossing a railroad trestle near Calais, has been sentenced to prison.

According to court records, 45-year old Benigno Godinez-Cortez, of Ahuacuotzingo, Guerrero, Mexico was sentenced to serve 70 days in prison for unlawfully re-entering the United States.

Godinez-Cortez pled guilty on August 14.

He is a citizen of Mexico who had been deported after his arrest in 1994 on immigration charges and didn't have immigration documents allowing him to enter.

He was sentenced in U.S. District Court of Chief Judge Nancy Torrensen and investigated by the U.S. Border Patrol and U.S. Customs and Border Protection.
