A 26-year-old man was trapped in a vehicle and seriously injured after a crash into a utility pole in Standish.
Man Trapped in Vehicle Helped by Bystanders and Taken to Hospital
Anthony Black from Standish was extricated from the vehicle by bystanders and transported to Maine Medical Center in Portland for treatment.
Driver Lost Control, Went Off the Road and Collided with a Utility Pole
The Cumberland County Sheriff’s Office said Black lost control of his vehicle, left the roadway, crashed into a telephone pole and snapped it in half. The vehicle ended up on the passenger side.
Late Night Crash Involved One Vehicle with One Person Seriously Injured
The single-vehicle crash happened around 11:45 pm on Bonny Eagle Road.

Alcohol and Speed Believed to be Factors in the Crash with Ongoing Investigation
“Alcohol and speed appear to be factors in the crash and the crash remains under investigation,” according to the Cumberland County Sheriff’s Office.

First Responders on the Scene to Assist with Treatment and Utility Pole Damage
Responding to the scene were deputies, the Standish Fire Department and Central Maine Power.

Road Closed for Several Hours as Vehicle was Removed and Utility Pole Fixed
The road was closed in the area for almost four hours as the vehicle was removed and the pole fixed.
