A 23-year-old woman died Sunday night after a shooting and a 24-year-old man was arrested and charged with Murder in Carrabassett Valley, Maine.

Woman Shot and Taken to the Hospital with Serious Injuries

Makayla Rose Desantis from Colchester, Connecticut was shot around 7:30 pm and taken to the Franklin Hospital in Farmington.

Victim Died from Injuries at Hospital

She was then transported to Maine Medical Center in Portland where she died from her injuries.

Man Apprehended and Charged with Murder

Austin Doucette from Carrabassett Valley was arrested Monday evening and charged with the Murder.

Woman Shot and Critically Injured at a Residence

“Investigators learned that Makayla sustained her injuries at a residence on the Left Bank in Carrabassett Valley,” according to Shannon Moss, Public Information Officer, Maine Department of Public Safety.

Ongoing Investigations and Additional Evidence

The investigation remains open and ongoing as additional evidence and information is collected.

The Maine State Police Major Crimes Unit investigated the case with the assistance of the Carrabassett Valley Police Department and the Franklin County Sheriff’s Office.
